SEOUL, Oct 13 Samsung Electronics Co., a South Korean tech giant, said Sunday that it has developed a core technology for a faster wireless fidelity (WiFi) network, whose Internet access it claims is more than five times faster than the current WiFi access.
Samsung, the world’s largest manufacturer of smartphones, said the new WiFi technology allows users to download and upload data at speeds of up to 575 megabits per second (Mbps), compared to the currently available 108 Mbps.
For one, smartphone users will be able to send and receive a 1GB movie in three seconds, Samsung said.
The tech giant said the new WiFi technology also sharply reduces radio frequency interference, which is common for the current wireless Internet connection, as it uses a ultrahigh frequency spectrum.
Samsung said it plans to adopt the new WiFi technology for its next smart devices, medical equipment and smart home network services.
Last year, Samsung developed the fifth-generation network (5G) for the first time in the world, which enables customers to access a stream of data faster than before, such as an entire movie in less than a second.
