BANGKOK, 11 June 2013 The Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) is targeting a 20 percent growth in loans for small-and medium-sized businesses or SMEs, while expressing confidence in this year’s growth.

According to Vareemon Niyomthai, assistance vice president of the SCB, the bank is now one of the top 3 loan providers for Thai SMEs in the country, as it has been focusing on liquidity and product quality improvement that could actually meet the demand of customers. The executive says the bank still sees signs of fluctuation in the Thai currency in the second half of this year, which will put exporters and importers in an uncomfortable position. As a result, the bank will carry on its SME loan project to help alleviate the impacts of the strong baht.

The bank also expects to see a 20 percent growth in SME loans this year, amounting to 57 billion baht, while the outstanding loans will stand at around 360-370 billion baht.
