BANGKOK, 19 June 2013 The government’s tax collections in the first 8 months of fiscal 2013 were higher than anticipation while tax return was also higher than expected.
According to Director-General of the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO) Somchai Sujjapongse, the government has collected 1.43 trillion baht from taxes in the first 8 months of the 2013 fiscal year, during October 2012 to May 2013. The number was 6.2 percent or 84 billion baht higher than the estimate. All the revenue was collected by 3 departments, namely the Revenue, Excise and Customs departments. The higher-than-expected revenue was a result of automobile tax, personal income tax, and fuel tax. He said the increasing number indicated higher domestic consumption, higher household income, and a constant business expansion in the country.
Despite the high figure of overall tax collections, the May 2013 figure was lower than the estimate, standing at 326 billion baht, which was 21 billion baht lower than expected.
The director-general further revealed that the government also had to pay 21 billion baht higher in tax return to income earners, or around 11.8 percent.
