BANGKOK, June 26 – Thai AirAsia (TAA), a Bangkok-based budget airline, is seeking to open a direct flight from Bangkok to the Myanmar capital by October, ahead of the year-end regional sports event SEA Games.
TAA chief executive officer Tassapol Bijleveld said the airline seeks approval from Myanmar authorities to operate direct flight from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport to Naypyidaw.
He said the maiden flight is expected to be in service in October in time to facilitate tourists and those who will attend the 27th SEA Games to be hosted by Myanmar in December.
Mr Tassapol said the budget airline will increase its routes in Southeast Asia, from the current nine destinations, in the wake of the ASEAN Economic Community which will take effect at the end of 2015.
