BANGKOK, 28 March 2012 – The country’s private bus operators have affirmed to continue keeping their fares at the current level without adjusting the existing schedules and routes.
Thai Bus Operators Association president Sujinda Cherdchai told reporters, after her meeting with association members on Tuesday, that all bus operators have agreed to maintain their service currently in effect, without charging more from passengers.
Mrs. Sujinda said the fare adjustment is now pending a decision by the Central Land Transport Committee, which is expected to come out in April.
Accordingly, passengers are assured that they will be able to enjoy all bus services during the upcoming Songkran holidays without any interruption or having to worry about higher fares.
However, Mrs. Sujinda stated that there will not be any extra fleet to be offered during Songkran, as all operators have been suffering huge losses from rising fuel prices.
She said that, in case the government wishes to facilitate those who will return to their hometowns for holidays, it may consider shouldering extra fuel costs for all operators or making other offers that the Thai Bus Operators Association are open for discussion.
