Thai export focused on Latin America, hoping to hit 12% this year

BANGKOK, 28 April 2011 -Minister of Commerce Pornthiva Nakasai revealed that the Department of Export Promotion planned to promote Thai products in Latin America including Argentina, Chile and Peru. The Minister hopes to increase the export by 12%. 

According to Ms. Pornthiva, export growth to these 3 countries had expanded by as much as 70% last year, accounting for 5.8 billion USD. In the first two months of 2011 alone, the export value was recorded at 1 billion USD or 46% increase in terms of the amount of products.

Products exported to Latin America consist of auto parts, para rubber, machinery, electronics, canned and process seafood, plastic and others. Ms. Pornthiva added that their governments had expressed strong interest in joining economic cooperation with Thailand.
