BANGKOK, Jan 6 – The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) posted the highest trading value in ASEAN for the third year running, and market capitalization of its initial public offerings (IPO) exceeded Bt300 billion last year.

SET President Kesara Manchusree said that the trading value amounted to an average of Bt45.46 billion per day.

The value was the highest in ASEAN for the third consecutive year despite varied national poroblems facing Thailand in the first half of last year.

The trading volume of futures amounted to as many as 147,025 contracts per day.

In the third quarter, the number of stock-trading accounts exceeded 1 million for the first time, a result of the general public interest in investment and campaigns by securities firms and banks to reach potential investors nationwide.

The number of investor accounts with online trading stood at 779,318 in November, rising nearly 30 per cent from the end of 2013, and it is growing steadily. The SET plans to develop access to investment information through websites and social media this year to serve the digital lifestyle of investors.

In 2014, there were 45 newly listed stocks with a combined market capitalization based on their IPO prices at Bt304.79 billion.

Ms Kesara expects a similar number of newly listed stocks this year.
