BANGKOK, 27 May 2013 Over 1,000 companies in the food industry from all over the world got together to display their products at over 3,000 booths at Muang Thong Thani during the past week.
The THAIFEX 2013 is one of the progressive strategies for “bringing the Thai kitchen to the world,” held under the “savor the Best in Asia” concept. The event serves as a platform for the exhibition of products and for trade negotiations. It aimed to showcase Thailand’s industrial potential in terms of both raw materials and finished products for export in the global market.
The food industry is considered one of Thailand’s top exports, bringing in over 20 billion US dollars each year. Even while grappling with the stronger Thai baht in the first trimester of 2013, the Thai export industry has already managed to export over 4.4 billion US dollars worth of food products, expanding by 3.6% compared to the previous year’s value.
Fresh, frozen and processed fruit and vegetables account for the highest ratio for growth, at an expansion rate of 6.8%. Meanwhile, frozen and canned seafood account for the second highest growth rate, excluding shrimp which boasts a 2.7% increase year on year.
