BANGKOK, 17 January 2013 Thailand has been invited to play host to a prominent global billionaires’ meeting, tipped as a good boost to foreign investment in the country.
Government spokesman Tossaporn Serirak said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra held a meeting with Mr. Christopher Forbes, Vice Chairman of Forbes Magazine, who paid a courtesy visit to the Thai leader at Government House.
PM Yingluck and Mr. Forbes discussed a proposition for Thailand to host the Forbes Global CEO Conference 2014, an annual meeting where executives from leading global companies get to share their views on business and investment.
The conference, held in many countries over past years, will be hosted by Indonesia this year.
Mr. Forbes said that the gathering is aimed to showcase the trade and investment potential of the host country, which, in turn, can help boost investment by major investors across the globe.
He added that, as the host country, 100 local businesspeople will be invited to take part in the meeting, along with 300 top management people from around the world.
The Forbes Magazine Vice Chairman stated that Thailand is invited to be next year’s host because of its strong economic fundamentals and growth potential.
The Premier has agreed to review the invitation before a confirmation can be made with Forbes.
