Thailand-Myanmar talks in Feb to yield conclusion on Dawei mega project

BANGKOK, 3 January 2013  Thai and Burmese representatives will convene in February over the construction of the Dawei Deep Sea Port in Myanmar in a bid to find a conclusion on the joint effort. 

According to Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Mr. Nivatthamrong Boonsongpaisal, the meeting between the Thai and Burmese officials has been scheduled to take place next month, with details of the collaboration on the Dawei Deep Sea Port Development Project set to be finalized and the construction work to begin in early April.

Suggestions on how Thailand should proceed with the project will also be sought from Japanese investors who are involved in it as well as the private sector and state enterprises.

Thailand and Myanmar signed three joint communiques on the development of the Dawei Deep Sea Port during the ASEAN Summit in Cambodia in November last year.
