BANGKOK, 8 July 2013 The Transport Minister has expressed his confidence that the government’s 2 trillion baht infrastructure project will definitely help lift the country’s logistics system.

Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt said the 2 trillion baht infrastructure project is the main key to developing the country’s logistics system on par with those of neighboring ASEAN countries when the ASEAN Economic Community comes in 2015. Not only will it better the country’s infrastructure, he said the project will help promote Thailand as the logistics hub of ASEAN with its integrated network of transportation, namely road, rail, air, and water.

He added that Thailand is still lagging behind other ASEAN members in terms of logistics. If the issue was left unsolved, the minister believed Thailand would lose its competitiveness and opportunities to attract foreign traders and investors.

Mr. Chadchart affirmed that the government is placing an emphasis on transparency in implementing the project, believing that it will be free from corruption.
