BANGKOK, 23 May 2012 – Vietnamese Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Nguyen tien Minh has expressed his confidence that Vietnamese people are ready to enter the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.
Representatives of press members under the supervision of the Public Relations Department (PRD) paid a call on Mr. Nguyen tien Minh on Wednesday as part of the Media Practitioners Exchange Program under an MOU between the PRD and the Voice of Vietnam. The director-general said the PRD representatives’ recent visit to Vietnam to collect information about Vietnam for dissemination to Thai people could ready the two countries for the AEC which would soon come into force. Mr.Nguyen tien Minh said he hoped that such a public relations activity would help Thais learn more about Vietnam and create closer Thai-Vietnamese ties.
The director-general also emphasized that Vietnam gave high priority to the AEC and would do its utmost to be a strong, agile and responsible member of the AEC and cooperate with other member states to strengthen ASEAN. He confirmed Vietnam has strictly followed the ASEAN Charter.
Vietnam has been campaigning for the AEC to encourage Vietnamese people to be active and understand the role and importance of the AEC. In 2015, one year before the AEC enters into force, Vietnam will accelerate its work in educating Vietnamese people about the AEC so that the country is fully ready to become part of the community.
