BANGKOK, 31 August 2011 -The Ministry of Labor is launching a pilot program for the 300 THB minimum wage policy which will be implemented in 7 provinces first while this will be applied to the rest of the nation during the 2nd phase of the wage adjustment.
According to Labor Minister Mr. Padermchai Sasomsap, with all factors considered the 7 provinces that are most qualified to receive the wage rise consist of Bangkok, Samut Sakhon, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi and Phuket. The minimum wage will be adjusted up by 40%. Among 7 of them except for Phuket the wage will rise to 301 THB per day while it will be increased to 309 THB in Phuket.
However, the Ministry of Labor is expected to bring the standards of skilled labor higher as opposed to the wage rise to help employers gain confidence and make them willing to cope with higher costs of business. The skill development program has been anticipated to neutralize opinions against wage inequality in every province.
