A British tourist experienced a near-tragic fall at Pai Canyon (known locally as “Kong Lan”) in Pai, Mae Hong Son province, northern Thailand. The incident occurred on July 28 when Callum David Elvideg, 25, fell approximately 5 meters from a high point at the popular tourist site. His body became wedged between rocks, but he remained conscious and responsive, allowing for a coordinated rescue effort.
The Pai Radio Club reported the incident, prompting a swift response from the Wiang Tai Subdistrict Administrative Organization’s highland rescue team, along with tourist police and soldiers from Company 723. Upon reaching the scene, they found Mr. Elvideg suffering from swelling in his right leg and abrasions on his left elbow and right hand. Despite these injuries, he was alert and able to communicate, with no signs of severe pain, neck or back injuries, or difficulty breathing.
Initial medical assistance was provided on-site before Mr. Elvideg was transported to Pai Hospital for further evaluation. X-rays revealed no fractures or serious injuries, and medical staff treated and cleaned his abrasions.
Pai Canyon is a popular destination for tourists, particularly those interested in watching the sunrise and sunset. However, the area is known for its narrow and hazardous paths, which have led to several accidents in the past. Visitors are advised to exercise caution when exploring the site.
