YALA – Thirty-four Thai students have been put in health quarantine in Yala after they returned from Pakistan on Monday, as the southern province has enforced a complete lock-down to contain the Covid-19 outbreak.
The students arrived in Yala Monday morning on two charter buses from Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Head of the Provincial Public Health Office of Yala Dr. Songkran Maichum said the students had first been screened and later placed under a14-day quarantine.
At least 35 Covid-19 patients have been reported in Yala. A 54-year-old resident of Yala on Sunday died from Covid-19, becoming the country’s eight victim.
The man travelled to Malaysia’s Kelantan state of Malaysia on March 12 and later confirmed to have been infected with the novel coronavirus on March 18.
With the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the province, the Governor of Yala on Sunday evening declared a lock-down prohibiting non-essential interprovincial traveling.
As of Monday, Thailand has 1,524 coronavirus cases, 1,388 active, and nine deaths. (TNA)
