BANGKOK, April 10 (TNA) – The state-run Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand (DPO) will buy more milk from dairy farmers, who have been affected by low demand amid the Covid-19 outbreak.
Demand for raw milk slows because dairy processors cut their production due to consumers’ low purchasing power and economic condition.
Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Mananya Thaiset said she ordered the DPO, the manufacturer of Thai-Danish dairy products to buy raw milk to help farmers.
She also directed a policy to DPO to sell UHT milk to state agencies at lower prices. The campaign will run until the end of May.
It has coordinated with the Interior Ministry to add DPO dairy products in relief bags to be handed out to people put under state and home quarantine.
The DPO also sells its dairy products at special prices for state agencies, foundations and donors who will give UHT milk to medical staff and those, affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.
The campaign, which will run until the end of May will not only help dairy farmers but also provide nutritious food to people, Mananya said.
UHT milk can be stored at room temperature for longer time than normal milk, she noted. (TNA)
