Looking for a Beach BBQ? Yes, the Dining Out team can recommend one, but you will have to wait till Thursday at the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya (and that has to be the longest name for a resort in the world).
One of the outlets in the huge sprawling resort is the Coast Beach Club and Bistro, which has daily rotating specials all week. We had previously sampled the Roast Sunday lunches, but the rest of the week offerings include Martini Mondays, Tiki and Mussels Tuesdays, Crab-fest Wednesdays, Beach BBQ Thursdays, 100 Flavors Fridays, Prawn-fest Saturdays and finally a Brazilian BBQ Sunday evening.
We descended on the Coast Beach Club, and it is a descent from the lobby down through wonderful suspension bridges till you arrive at the private beach.
The BBQ is truly ‘on the beach’ so you can wriggle your toes in the sand while dining and trotting up to the loaded tables and live cooking areas. Of course it is an ‘all-you-can-eat’ event (far more than just a simple BBQ).
The BBQ offerings are numerous and took up four A4 pages, so do spend time to walk around and see what is on offer. The items include appetizers (try the rock lobsters on ice), a salad bar even with the makings for a Caesar salad, a choice of soups including French onion, then into the traditional BBQ with Australian beef striploin, white gourmet sausages, Chorizo sausages, pork neck, butterfish, mackerel, river prawns, and squid.
A carvery is available with roasted beef, along with a live station with spicy green papaya salad, chicken marinated Thai style, and sticky rice. While still on Thai items, there is a noodle soup cart dispensing Thai noodle soup with condiments.
Hot dishes? Try pasta with stir fried shrimps, vegetables, hot basil and green peppercorns, braised bourguignon, mashed potatoes, stir fried vegetables with white egg drop sauce, fried rice with pineapple, chicken, yellow curry powder and raisins and steamed jasmine rice.
A choice of many sauces and desserts and cakes include summer berry pudding, brownie cake and even strawberry eclairs.
And yes, there’s a waffle station with three kinds of ice creams.
Of course, what helps make this BBQ a memorable occasion is the Hawaiian and Polynesian and fire show. Children are very much welcome and there were groups of kids all practicing Hawaiian and Polynesian dances while mums and dads were trotting back to the BBQ. Something for everyone!
Definitely a good event for families, or for anyone who enjoys a genuine Beach BBQ.
