Thai Garden’s Incredible Buffets

Next year, the Thai Garden Resort turns 25!  To still be here at quarter of a century, they have to be doing something right!  We went along at the invitation of the GM Rene Pisters, to try their German buffet with roasted pig, one of their daily different buffets, at an incredible B. 299 and all you can eat.  We say “incredible” because having experienced one of the Thai Garden buffets earlier this year, it is hard to imagine better value.

For those who have never been to the Thai Garden Resort, it is on North Road, coming from Sukhumvit, 100 meters past the Pattaya City Hall and on the other side of the road.  You can’t miss it.  You can do a U-turn at the traffic lights.  Parking in the Thai Garden Resort’s grounds is easy and secure.  And there is plenty of it.

To find the buffet area is easy too.  Go in via the reception area, heading towards the large free-form swimming pool.  On your left is a glassed in air-conditioned area which houses the food from the resort’s cold kitchen, and then in front and to the right are many tables, all with quality tablecloths and settings.  The hot food is on your left hand (pool) side, complete with a live cooking station roasting the Thursday pig.

We had decided to go on the Thursday, which is their German buffet, and like all their buffets is an all-you-can-eat for B. 299.  And that is net.  (The full line-up consists of Mondays – Pizza and Pasta, Tuesdays BBQ buffet, Wednesdays Multi-cuisine buffet, Thursdays German buffet with roasted pig, Fridays Thai buffet, Saturdays International buffet and Sundays Steaks and skewers buffet.)  The buffets are every evening 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., and there is “Happy Hour” between 5.30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

We discussed the history of the Thai Garden buffets with GM Rene who told us that they began offering these in December last year, and during high season they were very popular.  As an experiment they continued the buffets into low season, and once again, the high attendance has continued, so he has now extended the B. 299 buffets till April 2013.  The concept has been to offer value for money and in a pleasant ambience.  The ambience is also heightened with the Los Requerdos musical trio strolling around the tables and playing the items for the guests.

On our ‘German’ night, I began with some salmon and German potato salad and some French bread.  I was tempted to go for another plate of salmon, but stopped myself!  Madame began her evening with the green pea soup and declared it was excellent.

From there, the sight of the roast pig was just too enticing and we indulged in the hot food.  There is an enormous range, with butter pasta, beef stew and vegetables, grilled meat loaf with mushroom sauce, grilled mini-hamburgers with onion sauce, fried fillet of fish in egg, baked spinach with cheese, a selection of sausages, sauerkraut, red cabbage, German fried potatoes and the roast pig.

Every item we tried was well cooked, not dried out, and was very flavorsome.  With it being a ‘full house’ the items were being constantly turned over, so were freshly cooked.

This was more than just “great” value – “incredible” value is probably more to the mark.  And the strolling trio playing requests just added to that value.

Like all buffets, it is our recommendation that you order a glass of wine or a beer, relax a little, and then make a leisurely stroll around the food items first.

With the prices being B. 299 net for adults and B. 199 net for children under 12 and infants under four years of age free, this certainly does make the Thai Garden Resort buffets great value for money.  We can certainly recommend the Thai Garden Buffets, but do suggest that you book.  Value like this does attract a full house.
