Chonburi Gov. Pakarathorn Thienchai ordered urgent measures be taken to combat dust and smoke after air pollution spiked above healthful levels in three sub-districts.

The amount of particulate matter measuring under 2.5 micrograms was found to be unhealthy in Tun Sukala and Bowin in Sriracha and Ban Suan in Muang District last week.

The governor’s office ordered local officials to take steps to reduce sources of dust and smoke, control outdoor burning and smoke from engines and vehicles.

Law enforcement was urged to strictly enforce burning laws, get smoke-belching vehicles off the road and encourage local drivers to refrain from vehicle use.

Local government crews also were instructed to hose down streets to keep the dust down.
