Bangkok – The Minister of Culture chaired a merit making event Saturday to mark the 236th anniversary of the Rattanakosin Kingdom, at Lan Khon Muang in front of the office of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).
The event, which was a joint effort of the Culture Ministry, the Department of Religious Affairs and the BMA, started with alms giving to 237 monks at 7 am, with officials from respective organizations and local residents attending the ceremony.
Later at the Bangkok National Museum, Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat officiated at a parade showcasing exhibitions and shows at palaces, museums and temples of the Rattanakosin era. The parade is part of the five-day celebration of the Rattanakosin Kingdom, which is being held at various establishments until April 25.
The Royal Thai Army, the Royal Thai Police and the Sangha sector have arranged for officials to facilitate the access of those wishing to attend the event. Meanwhile, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority has arranged free transportation around the Rattanakosin Island for event-goers from 10 am to 8 pm.
