Bangkok, 10th August 2019 – The government has invited members of the public to join activities in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s birthday on August 12.
Prime Minister’s Office Permanent Secretary Phatcharaphorn Inseeyong said the government has prepared activities in Bangkok, the provinces and overseas.
On August 12, an alms-giving ceremony will be conducted with 488 monks at Sanam Luang. Alms will be donated to social welfare units and needy temples. In the blessing ceremony, plates of flowers will be conferred at 5p.m. and candles will be lit at 7.30p.m. Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will preside over the ceremony in Bangkok.
In the provinces, the ceremony will be organized at the provincial halls or appropriate venues. Overseas, the Thai embassies and consular offices will conduct the ceremony.
The Prime Minister’s Office permanent secretary said the government will organize activities such as volunteer work for the blind, which will be organized and presided over by the premier on August 14 at the Foundation for the Blind in Thailand on Ratchavithi Road. A lecture will be delivered on the producion of a Braille book, lunch and items will be provided for blind children.
Activities will include a tug-of-war and soccer game between cabinet ministers and students at Mathayom I to Mathayom 6 levels.
The public and private sectors may participate in the activities in honor of Her Majesty by hosting lunch for underprivileged and elderly persons or conducting activities of public interest.
Members of the public are encouraged to display the national flag, emblem of the coronation ceremonies and Her Majesty’s flag on buildings and houses, arrange venues for the writing blessing messages and participate in various activities to express allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother.
The public are advised that they can light candles in the blessing ceremony at Sanam Luang and view His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua during the merit-making ceremony in the Grand Palace.
