With Pattaya moving its official Loy Krathong celebration to Pattaya Beach at Central Road this year, left-out Naklua residents say they still want their usual event at Lan Po Public Park.
Deputy Mayor Banlue Kullavanijaya and city social welfare and enforcement officers met Nov. 15 with Santi Klongnoi, president of the Lan Po Community and other neighborhood leaders.
They argued that than Lan Po Park event, which features entertainment and food along with the traditional floating of krathongs in the park’s lake, was well-known among Thais near and far and should continue, even if the city’s official commemoration is downtown.
But, community leaders said, they want Pattaya to pay part of the tab to stage the event.
Banlue expressed agreement with the idea, but said community leaders must submit a formal letter of financial support to city hall before any commitment can be made.
