The Tourism Authority of Thailand will launch a second phase of the “Pattaya Hot Deal” promotion Aug. 15, expanding on a program that already is paying dividends for the city’s battered tourism industry.
Phisut Sae-khu, president of the Thai Hotels Association Eastern Region, said a meeting this week at the Cape Dara Resort that the second phase of Hot Deal should begin Aug. 15.
The campaign allows people to purchase discount vouchers for Pattaya hotels, restaurants and attritions for up to 50 percent off normal prices on the Shopee online store. TAT subsidizes the businesses for the lost revenue. Vouchers can be redeemed from July 15-Dec. 31.
The first set of vouchers already has sold out, he said.
Combined with the government’s “We Travel Together” subsidized-tourism campaign, Pattaya hotels have seen a boost in occupancy in July. With no foreign tourists expected to be allowed into Thailand in 2020, the industry will need to survive on domestic travelers.
