Germany and Austria opened a joint consular office in Pattaya at the Thai Garden Resort in North Pattaya.
Rudolf Hofer, honorary consul for both countries, will head the North Road office that also serves as a base for the German Help Network of Pattaya. He welcomed German Ambassador Peter Pruegel and Austria’s Enno Drofenik to the March 1 opening along with a host of local government and police officials.
Hofer expressed his gratitude to hotel owner Gerrit Niehaus and General Manager Rene Pisters, who were in attendance as well.
The two ambassadors also thanked Niehaus and expressed their confidence in Hofer’s track record of good service.
Pattaya Deputy Mayor Apichart Virapal said the city was pleased to have the consulates in the city as it will allow for better cooperation and assistance to tourists and expats from the two countries.
Following the ribbon-cutting and champagne toast, the gathering enjoyed a buffet lunch.
