Chonburi Gov. Khomsan Ekachai opened the four-day fair February 26 with Rayong Tourism and Sports Director Phichai Piamthongkam, Chanthaburi Tourism and Sports Director Thikamporn Sutthiudomrat, Trat Provincial Development Strategy Group head Nitwet Harnsamut and Tourism Authority of Thailand Pattaya Director Suladda Sarutilavan at Central Festival Pattaya Beach.

The “Flowers of the East” parade snaked down Beach Road, leading the way for 200 booths offering food, locally made goods, tourist souvenirs, hotels packages and other inexpensive merchandise.

The festival also featured a contest for dresses made of flowers offering more than 200,000 baht in prizes.

Khomsan said eastern provinces have great potential for tourism and can generate enormous revenue for the country. The annual festival shows the potential of the area and its readiness in every aspect of tourism.

Each province, he said has its own special charms. Chonburi has a variety of attractions. Rayong is the home of Sunthon Phu, the best-known royal poet of the Rattanakosin era, and has interesting fishing villages. And Trat is highly regarded for its clean and beautiful sea, local culture, and border trade.

The Colors of the East fair combined the prominent features of the four provinces into one place. It provided opportunities for local tourism operators, handicraft producers, restaurant operators, and cultural performers to publicize themselves to both Thai and international tourists.
