The elephants of Nong Nooch Tropical Garden celebrated Mother’s Day by both marching in a parade and painting birthday wishes to HM the Queen.
Siriporn Pinlom, Mayor of Kledkaew Sub-district, opened the celebrations by leading about 100 residents of the municipality as well as Khao Cheechan in collecting garbage and cleaning the street outside the Najomtien Sub-district park Aug. 10.
On Aug. 12, 30 elephants paraded, putting on a blessing dance afterward. Three baby elephants closed the parade by presenting flower garlands to their mothers.
The elephants continued the environmental theme by writing “green across Thailand to dedicate to HM the Queen” with their trunks.
Nong Nooch Director Kampol Tansajja opened the Mother’s Day event, introducing Yok, an 11-year-old female, who painted trees on a green field, and Baitoey, also 11, who wrote the words.
The message comes from the longer stanza, “If the King is water, I would become a forest to be loyal to water. If the King constructed a reservoir, I would plant a forest.”
He said Nong Nooch wanted to encourage people to conserve and love forests as much as the Queen.
