Prominent political and business figures gathered at The Now Hotel in Jomtien, marking a collaborative effort to address the economic challenges faced by Pattaya City. The meeting, attended by influential leaders including Mayor Poramet Ngamphichet, Pattaya Business and Tourism Association (PBTA) President Boonanan Pattanasin, Real Estate Sector Representative Rattakit Hengtrakul, and Chairman of the Policy Committee for the Pheu Thai Party Dr Prommin Lertsuridej, aimed to identify solutions and boost economic growth in the region.

Dr. Prommin, said the purpose of his visit, was to gain comprehensive insights into Pattaya City’s economic challenges. Recognizing the city’s status as a global economic hub, the delegation engaged in direct conversations with local representatives and business operators to identify areas requiring intervention from the economic team. It became evident that granting Pattaya City a special administrative status would enhance its ability to manage development effectively. However, existing regulations have hindered progress, prompting Dr. Prommin, a member of the influential Pheu Thai Party, to commit to addressing these obstacles.

The meeting centered on streamlining the licensing process which currently involves complex procedures. Participants stressed the need to simplify permit applications to stimulate economic activities. Additionally, discussions emphasized the allocation of budgets for events and activities aimed at boosting the local economy. Government support in positioning Pattaya City as a premier tourist destination, both within Thailand and globally, was also emphasized.

The meeting produced positive outcomes, with representatives from both the government and private sectors acknowledging the challenges and proposing viable solutions. These proposals will serve as models for addressing similar issues in other major tourist cities across Thailand.
