Many in Pattaya will be saddened by the passing of Rick early in February, following major surgery in November in his home country Canada.
Rick had a distinguished voice and it was always said if you did not see him on the golf course – you would hear him!
For over 15 years Rick had a routine! Come to Pattaya in October – and not shave!
Rick would visit a number of schools – not always the same ones – and ask for a list of children who had worked hard and who a bike would be of help. Then, with assistance from Pattaya Sports Club, he would visit a number of bike shops to explain what he wanted, and he’d always get a good deal.
Once he got the bikes, he would check to ensure they were satisfactory and add a bell and helmet.
He then made arrangements to hand over the bikes to the children himself at the school and give a brief talk – interpreted – about safety. Frequently a member from PSC would also attend.
At Christmas time, he became a popular Santa – with a real beard! He attended many Christmas parties and was always at the PSC party.
That was not all; he assisted several charities where he gave his time using his many abilities over many years.
He has gone! But will never be forgotten. RIP, dear friend.
