CHONBURI, Thailand – A TikTok user named ‘@kkvk_’ posted a video showing visitors throwing shells at a sleeping new born animal named ‘Moo Deng’, a baby pygmy hippopotamus, trying to wake it up. Another TikTok user, ‘@_wc’, shared a video of a visitor pouring water on the baby hippo while it was resting, Sep 11. The videos prompted widespread criticism online, with many condemning the tourists’ actions.

In response, Narongwit Chotchoi, Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Sriracha, has issued a plea to visitors to respect the animals. He emphasizes the importance of observing the animals when they are active and urges visitors to avoid throwing objects or causing disturbances that could harm the animals. Respectful behavior and adherence to zoo rules are essential for a positive experience.

To prevent further incidents, the zoo has installed surveillance cameras and increased staff presence during peak times. The zoo is committed to taking legal action against anyone who mistreats the animals.
