The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation hosted an early Loy Krathong ceremony to honor the ancestors of participants in its Pattaya Vegetarian Festival.

Foundation President Prasert Thongthitcharoen led the congregation of Chinese-Thais wearing white as they paraded to Lan Po Public Park Oct. 16 for the merit-making ceremony

When the parade arrived at the park’s multipurpose zone he lit incense and candles as believers prayed to Chinese gods and chanted to invite the spirts of dead relatives and those without living families to partake in the ceremony.

Participants floated krathongs carrying the usual incense and candles as well as paper wishes and fake money that later were collected and burned in a ceremony the following day.
