HM Queen Elizabeth II visits Thai exhibit
Pattaya’s Nong Nooch Tropical Garden won a gold medal for the third consecutive year for its Thai orchids at the Chelsea Flower Show in London. Teams from 50 countries took part in the contest.
Park Director Kampol Tansajja said May 23 that judges from the United Kingdom’s Royal Horticultural Society had also awarded the park an honorable mention in the Thai Orchid Extravaganza category before the show opened May 22.

Kampol said Pattaya City Hall commissioned the park to design a garden display themed “Beautiful Thailand.” Measuring more than 100 sq. meters, the exhibit was intended to convey happiness, beauty and poise in the traditions and cultures of the lives of Thai people.
The centerpiece of the garden features a Thai sala surrounded by colorful flowers along with small details and local elements such as elephants and buffaloes. There was also a joss house reflecting Buddhist faith, and a variety of games played by children.

He said the string of medals the park has earned since 2010 made park employees proud.
Kampol said, however, that the highlight of the event was when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visited the exhibit while attending the show. He said it was the proudest moment of his life when HM Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the royal family all had praise for the Thai exhibition, with HM complimenting the hard work that was put in to creating it.
