Re: Pattaya City Hall worker ‘adopts’ 80 stray dogs (PM Friday, 26 February 2016) – I can relate to this woman as I have a daughter with the same attitude. She only has to see a dog and next thing she is stroking it and baby talking to it. She is quite well off and has made a will where all her assets will go to the local dog homes (RSPCA etc.) At times she can be an embarrassment to me, but she is a mature and it’s not my place to tell her how to run her life. I have suggested she leave her assets to an orphanage but she shows no interest.

She has visited Thailand several time and I have warned her not to have anything to do with the local dogs. (Sometimes my heart is in my mouth when we come in contact with a stray animal.)

In my country all dogs must be on a leash when outside their domicile except in designated areas. All dogs must be microchipped so as if they do stray the owner can be notified if the animal is impounded. In the case of not being returned to the owner after a set time the animal is humanly euthanized. It is very unusual to see a stray dog.

On the land we do have a slight problem with the Dingo. (Thought to be an offshoot of the Thai “Sword Tailed Dog”) and fox but they rarely come in contact with people. There is a law awaiting legislation where cats must be contained on the owner’s property in daylight hours and restrained (caged or kept inside) during night time.
