Re: Clapton fans… (PM 25 January 2011). Clapton is the guitar god we came to see (in Bangkok February 2011), and he didn’t disappoint. He played with intensity and precision; no phoning it in here. It was telling that even the people in the good seats repeatedly looked back up over their shoulders to watch the close-ups of Clapton’s hands when the appeared on the overhead screens for those in the more-distant seats.
An acoustic portion of the show felt like the band was hanging out on a front porch, and the bluesy stuff rocked. Clapton played more songs from his time with Derek and the Dominos – Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? and Nobody Knows When You’re Down, and a fiery rendition of Motherless Children was a fine choice from his solo career.
