Re: ‘No chairs Wednesday’ a hit on Jomtien Beach (PM Friday, 20 November 2015) – I for one am delighted to see that the no chairs rule remains on a Wednesday and would like to see it expanded to cover every day while at the same time giving the deck chair concessions a small area as they have now for those people that enjoy sitting in a chair.
Whilst Pattaya beaches are not the best, Thailand doing away with deck chairs enhances the entire beach area and for families with children an open beach provides a more inviting environment.
Along with my family I have lived and worked here for 5 years and the beach has become overcrowded with cluttered areas of deck chairs and any attempt to use the beach outside of the deckchair areas has been met with hostility by the chair concessionaires who feel that they own the beach to the waterline.
In the Dongtan beach area many deckchair plots have been taken over by the gay community who huff and puff if children go anywhere near the area and have made that particular area a no-go area for anyone not of the same persuasion.
Let us see the chair free area expanded and attract more families back to what was once an appealing resort for tourists.
