The esteemed guru of the Pattaya Mail, Peter Malhotra, has reminded us all that the newspaper has now been going 23 years. Not quite Guinness Book of Records stuff but I have been asked by people who should know, that they are in possession of a round black plastic thing with a hole in the middle, and is this a record? Indeed it is.
But the number 23 is loved by the followers of numerology, especially the Discordians. The “23 Enigma” refers to the Discordian belief that all incidents and events are directly connected to the number 23, some permutation of the number 23, or a number related to the number 23, given enough ingenuity on the part of the interpreter. So there you have it! And it sort of fits the current Pattaya Mail situation, being connected to the birth of the paper 23 years ago.
And if you want something supernatural from all this, did you know there has never been a Pattaya Mail with a number 23 back page, in the entire history of the publication. Spooky!
But in a more serious note, I personally have been honored to be associated with the Pattaya Mail for about 15 years, so I’ve only got another eight to go!
