Dear Editor,
Full marks to Mayor Itthiphol for taking an unofficial stroll down Pattaya Beach to confront jet ski operators head on about the money they are fleecing from tourists for imaginary damage when they hire jet skis.
Unless the hirer has an actual collision with another boat or turns the jet ski upside down, neither event which is likely to be missed by the operators, it’s difficult to imagine what damage it is possible to do to a jet ski.
What is equally disturbing is that Mayor Itthiphol doesn’t even trust his own police force to act as fair arbitrators. The fact that ‘only a few’ corrupt officers are involved is hardly reassuring!
The damage these scams are causing Pattaya’s tourist industry is incalculable, not that that worries the jet ski operators or the few corrupt police officers of course, as long as they all get their rake off.
I just hope the new regulations proposed by Mayor Itthiphol have enough ‘teeth’ when they come into force to rid Pattaya of this particular plague once and for all.
Best regards
