Re: Dented Rayong coast highlights Thailand’s coastal erosion (PM July 10). Decha Maneemai obviously is not aware that man, not nature, is the main driver of coastal erosion now. Most of this is related to navigational dredging, related structures and offshore sand mining. The irrational statement of letting nature take it course in face of such manmade alterations to natural systems is a serious error. Even the traditionally-designed coastal protection structures shown, offshore breakwaters, will cause major erosion down current. Yet, there is one proven method which both protects and restores the natural in this case, straight – beach by working with natural forces and materials: Holmberg Technologies (www.erosion.com). Until we adopt such successful strategies, our coastlines and the resources these sustain are going to continue to be lost.
