I read with distress the news that the city lawyer was looking to ban motorcycle taxis from public property.
I like Pattaya for its diversity but most of all, and this is what I tell visitors, I like the feeling that it is a safe city. There are many problems easily viewed such as overhead wiring, underfoot damaged pavement and road surfaces, flooding, traffic etc., but one thing we do have is static people on street corners, all day and night, watching.
These unofficial observers are the first to attend accidents, report incidents and generally know exactly what is going on. I can walk with more confidence from one end of the city to the other at 2:00am in Pattaya than any other city I know. In UK we would badge these observers as neighbourhood watch and give them recognition. Don’t let the city take them away from us.
