No need for desalination

Re: Time for desalination plants (PM Mailbag Friday, 11 September 2015) – I can’t imagine a less needy place for a desalination plant than Thailand. The annual rainfall here is huge; just like the cost of building and operating a desalination plant.

A more sensible approach is to build more dams or waste water treatment plants. Dams have the added benefit of hydro-electric power generation. This is not a problem that is or should be confined to Pattaya. It is a national matter because dams can only be built where there are mountains and there ain’t many mountains in or near Pattaya.

If the Pattaya Water Authority feels the need for a local project under its control then a waste water treatment plant makes a lot more sense.
