Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong told reporters the tax hikes were aimed at boosting government revenue and cutting consumption, while also squeezing out cheaper imported booze and smokes. Therein lies the parallax. Boost revenue and cut consumption? If consumption drops below the level required to increase revenue, what next? Stop copying looney governments like that of the UK. Only one outcome, more crime!
