Re: Give a damn for poor Thais (PM Mailbag August 5, 2016) – I am all for clearing out the beggars, a good proportion of them are not even Thai but are illegally in the country to beg, organised crime is behind most of them and children are ‘provided’ to make them more profitable.
As to the food vendors, by all means have some sort of checks on their food safety but the vast majority are providing a much appreciated service and driving them away will just put money into restaurant/hotel owners pockets who will then be able to up their prices. Street food is an integral part of Asian culture.
