Re: 100 rats killed at Bali Hai in 1st sweep (PM Friday, 30 January 2015) – Perhaps The Rat Plague would not have been so severe if carried out several years ago when City Hall was to carry out baiting them. Thailand’s most outspoken vegan together with a band of “tree huggers” said that rats had feelings and had as much right to the planet as us, and that rat baits would kill wildlife, also cats and dogs (cats & dogs were not doing their job anyway). The scheme was dropped.

One pair of rats and their offspring produce 2000 more in a year. My calculator maxed out calculating the amount of extra vermin produced over the lapsed period.

In the 19th century, rat baiting was a sport in England where rats were pitted against men or dogs. The records show one bull terrier named Jacko killed 100 rats in under 6 minutes.
