Two tour guides were arrested for working without licenses at a Sukhumvit Road checkpoint set up in Pattaya.
Highway and Tourist police ran the March 29 stop near Chonglom Temple in Naklua. They targeted motorcyclists driving without helmets and car passengers without seat belts, but also took special interest in tour buses.
Police stopped coaches and checked drivers to ensure they weren’t sleepy or on drugs and inspected the licenses of tour guides.
Thana Sukjai, a Bangkok guide, was arrested for not having paperwork allowing him to operate in Pattaya. His Chinese assistant, Liew Lieng, 31, was taken into custody for not having any license at all.
Tourist Police Division commander Pol. Maj. Col. Piyapong Ensarn said orders have come down from Bangkok for police to aggressively check the legality of tour guides working in Pattaya.
