Two people died when their pickup truck rear-ended an 18-wheeler in Sriracha.

Driver Uthaiwan Dangkrajang, 40, and passenger Yuwadee Sangseena, 37, died at the scene of the June 17 wreck at the Nong Kwa-Amata City intersection in Borwin Subdistrict. Both women died of broken necks with Uthaiwan also suffering broken legs and an arm while Yuwadee had other severe wounds.

It took rescuers almost an hour to free the crumpled bodies from the mangled truck, which was carrying fruit and vegetables that ended up all over the road.

Somchart Kanchanadith, 39, was driving the big rig filled with rock when he said he saw the pickup race up behind him in the left lane. It hit the trailer without braking.

Police speculated the driver fell asleep.
