Two teen boys from Nakhon Ratchasima have been arrested for allegedly strangling to death a transvestite and hiding his body under the bed at a Pattaya hotel.

The body was not discovered until Aug. 20 after a vacationing couple had checked out of the hotel, complaining of a bad smell in their room. Housecleaning staff sprayed the room with air freshener, but it still wasn’t enough.

The identity of the couple has not been released, and it is unknown at this point whether they were ever made aware of the dead body under the mattress.

The decomposing body was finally discovered when a cleaner noticed bodily fluids had begun leaking out from under the bed.

The 14- and 17-year-old boys from Nakhon Ratchasima were apprehended at a bus terminal in Chonburi’s Muang District Aug. 21, a day after the rotting body of mid-20s Amphon Kongsong at the hotel on Soi Buakhao. Police said the two teens confessed to killing the bar worker after he made an unwanted sexual advance.

Police said the 17-year-old met Amphon on Facebook and, because he was unemployed, the teen accepted the invitation to come to Pattaya where Amphon promised to look after him. He brought the 14-year-old along for company.

Amphon rented the hotel room on Aug. 16 and brought them food after he finished work at the bar. They then stayed together that night, but, during the evening, Amphon reportedly made an advance toward the older boy and a violent argument ensued.

The older boy told police he put the transvestite in a stranglehold while the younger one held down his legs. Once the man was dead, they put his body under a mattress and checked out in the morning.

Police said the two boys had juvenile records for assault and were out on bail while their trial commenced. They now face new charges of homicide and robbery.
