About 2,000 people pledged devotion to the monarchy and avoid drugs at a military-organized event in Pattaya.
Maj. Gen. Nat Inthacharoen, commander of the 14th Military Circle in Chonburi, presided over the June 26 event at Pattaya School No. 2 with Banglamung District Chief Sakchai Taengho joining civil servants, students, community leaders, state enterprise employees and local residents.
Monks provided holy water for the oath-taking rite led by Maj. Gen. Nat, who drank with a promise to be loyal to the monarchy and not use drugs.
The general said that the event was held because recently Thai people are divided in their political views causing distress and insecurity. It also marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
