A Nonthaburi man and two others were caught red-handed illegally dumping in East Pattaya.

Nongprue Subdistrict regulatory officer Charoen Wengsima and his patrol team apprehended Yod Yeemafuang and two unidentified others dumping garbage, branches and concrete scraps from a Bangkok-registered Isuzu pickup truck on the side of the road to Ban Hua Klok between Moo 8 and Moo 13 villages Aug. 3.

The three were fined 2,000 baht and released.

Yod told the officers that they had been hired by an unnamed landlord to dump the waste and were to be paid in booze and cigarettes.

Charoen also fined the landlord 2,000 baht.

Nongprue Deputy Mayor Wanchai Sanngam said Chonburi and the subdistrict are serious about ending illegal dumping and have patrols watching areas that attract dumpers.

However, with the pittance of the fine charged for illegal dumping – just 2,000 baht – there’s little incentive for construction companies, landlords and others to stop.

Nongprue Subdistrict regulatory officer Charoen Wengsima questions Yod Yeemafuang (seated) about their attempt to sully Pattaya roads with their industrial litter.

Two shirtless boys were also part of the heinous crime and fined 2,000 baht each. They had been hired by an unnamed landlord to dump the waste and were to be paid in booze and cigarettes.

The unnamed landlord (woman seated, trying to act innocent) was also fined 2,000 baht.
