Fifty students from Ubon Ratchathani University learned about the history and government of Pattaya during a field trip to city hall.

The public-administration undergrads escorted by Professor Krungthai Nopparat listened to a presentation from Maj. Jeerawat Sukonthasap, director of the Peace and Stability Maintenance Department, who covered the city’s growth from a tiny fishing village to a bustling tourist center of 150,000 registered residents and a half-million unregistered denizens.

The non-registered residents, he explained, come from various provinces to work and settle in Pattaya as it can provide income to people in many occupations.
