A Thai tourist escaped injury after both front-seat airbags of his Mercedes-Benz sedan exploded in a hotel parking lot.
Bangkok-resident Weerachai Kawinwongpaiboon, 51, was not in the vehicle when the driver and passenger airbags exploded at the KTK Regent Suite in Central Road Soi 12 May 8.
The cause of the explosion was unknown. Hotel security officers confirmed no one had touched the vehicle parked there overnight.

Mercedes-Benz has recalled more than 800,000 vehicles fitted with airbags made by Takata Corp. of Japan, which is facing bankruptcy over millions of recalls due to defective airbags that have killed dozens of people worldwide.
It’s unknown whether Weerachai’s vehicle was one of the recalled cars.
