A day after yet another foreign tourist was killed in a Pattaya speedboat accident, marine authorities assembled 300 local boat operators for yet another safety briefing.
Phimuk Prayunphrom, director of Marine Office Region 6, Nath Jabjai, deputy director of the Pattaya Marine Department, and Banglamung District Chief Sakchai Taengho hosted the Oct. 3 emergency meeting to try and stem the tide of tourist blood being spilled in area waters this summer. Four tourists have been killed, three maimed and dozens injured in accidents since January.
Marine authorities assembled 300 local boat operators for yet another safety briefing.
“These accidents have severely affected Pattaya tourism,” Nath told the group. He said safety depends on their competency, strength, skill in using safety equipment, and them not acting recklessly.
Training included explanations of safety regulations and procedures, as well as practical steps including placing buoys, boat routes, parking and organization of water-based activities, such as parasailing.
